From 0 to AI in one day: How to find your AI use cases

Everyone has heard of the buzzwords artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). But knowing when and where to use them is the tricky part. With the AI workshop, Kineo.ai offers companies a way to gain a basic understanding of how to apply AI and helps them identify the use cases that will bring the most business value. Let's take a closer look at how the AI workshop has helped one of the leading ergonomic transportation solutions companies in Germany.

The Challenge

With the AI workshop, the Hessian company Expresso managed to find a way to identify relevant use cases for its sales and service maintenance department, e.g. for its digital division. For 60 years, Expresso has been developing customized, professional products for various industries in Europe and the U.S.

One of the challenges Expresso faced was that it was not clear where AI could actually be of use to its own business. Given the complexity of the topic of artificial intelligence itself, it was difficult for them to think about use cases in their own business. There was also uncertainty about what was actually possible with the existing data spread across different departments throughout the company, and on the one hand Expresso was looking for a partner that would help the departments gain a general understanding of AI technologies and their potential and benefits.

On the other hand, Expresso wanted to know which types of use cases are already feasible now, which can be tackled at a later stage and which use cases are relevant but not yet feasible in the coming months.

Key Challenges

  • Lack of understanding of the diversity of AI technologies
  • Lack of clarity about which AI use cases to focus on
  • Data of varying quality, distributed across different departments

Our Approach

To shed some light on the subject, Kineo organized an AI workshop together with Expresso. The first half of the workshop consisted of giving an introduction and overview of AI technologies and making them tangible with concrete use cases in the industry. We explored the different ways in which an AI algorithm can learn and which use cases require which type of training model.

The second half of the day focused on discovering use cases for Expresso. We took a closer look at the available data sources and got an overview of which sources are available. Using the method of "Data Impact Mapping", we analyzed and evaluated use cases according to impact and effort with the aim of finding the "WOW-effect" use cases, i.e. those that have a high impact and low effort.

The Result

At the end of the day, we defined 12 use cases that Expresso was interested in. 5 of these were of particular interest and 2 of these will now be tackled as part of a Data Lighthouse.

Overall, the AI workshop helped Expresso to gain an overview of leading trends and key functions of AI and to identify use cases that meet the company's needs and interests.

Testimonial

Dr. Alexander Bünz, CEO Expresso

I was very pleased to see that you can already find real AI use cases with our data today. We may still have a few kilometers to go, but it's good to know that you have already covered the first 100 meters and are actively working on the topic. We are very much looking forward to working with Kineo in the future!
